Surgical sperm retrieval is a term used to describe the operations used to retrieve sperm from the male when no sperm are present in the ejaculate (azoospermia). The failure of sperm to appear in the ejaculate can be due to a blockage or obstruction (obstructive azoospermia)or due to too few sperm being produced to reach the outside (non obstructive azoospermia).
