An anatomy scan carefully examines the baby to ensure normal development and excludes the presence of abnormality. However, it must be remembered that not all abnormalities can be detected with ultrasound. The position of the placenta and amount of liquor fluid around the baby are also assessed and if requested determination of the sex/gender of the baby will be included. Infrequently the scan may need to be repeated as it is not possible to examine the baby completely on a single visit.
Cheshire Womens Health can provide this scan at 18 – 20 weeks gestation.
